Oakridge Soccer Kicks Hunger; Collects 560lbs for The London Food Bank
London, ON (December 24th, 2016) – With the London Food Bank in need of more non-perishable items this holiday season, a local not profit soccer association rose to the opportunity to help give back. The Oakridge Soccer Club, spearheaded by volunteer coaches Scott McAskill & Karen King helped coordinate the collection of more than 500 lbs of non-perishable items for the London Food Bank. All items were delivered to the food bank just in time for the holidays.
“We have been donating items to the London Food Bank for years and this year, challenged other teams in our association to help support our collection’, said Scott McAskill, Head Coach of U15 Girls Dynamo team. Oakridge Soccer collected 560lbs of non-perishable items; teams from U9 right up to U18 got behind the idea including the U11 Girls Oakridge SPARKS team who presented the London Food Bank with a cheque for $500 to help purchase more items.
“The Oakridge Soccer Club is very fortunate to have volunteers who donate hundreds of hours a year to community based soccer, to go a step further and help collect food for those in need during the holiday season is fantastic. We are very proud of all of our volunteers”, said Chris Veillon, President.
A very special thank you to Betsy Exley for coordinating the donations for the Oakridge SPARKS.
